ICC Cricket World cup 2003 Final match scorecard : World cup History


One of the most memorable world cup especially for the Indian fans just because of the finalist team Australia and India. It was the second time when India reached to the final, before this in the Captaincy of Kapil Dev; India won the one and only ICC world cup 1983. But, in the ICC Cricket world cup 2003 they lost the chance to won the world cup.

8th ICC cricket world cup 2003 was held from 9 February to 23rd march and this world cups host by the south Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. The New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg is selected as the final match venue. Australia and India are faced each other; Australia came to fight for defending their title, and India came to the ground for winning the 2nd world cup.

India won the toss and chooses to bowl first. Australia came to bat first and it’s both opener gave a good start Hayden 37 runs on 54 balls and Gilchrest 57 runs on 48 balls. After a good partnership Harbhajan Singh gives the first breakthrough, but when Pointing comes to bat, he takes the match complete to the Australian side by his brilliant innings of 140 runs on 121 balls. Australia scores the 359 runs on 2 wickets in 50 overs.








India failed to reach this target, and they lost the match by 125 runs. Virender Sehwag score 82 runs on 81 balls and Rahul Dravid score 47 runs 57 balls. Except Sehwag and Dravid there was no Indians batsman who managed to play a good innings. India got all out on just 234 runs in 39.2 overs.
