The 9th ICC world cup was held from the 13 March to 28 April, The final match was played on 28th April between Australia and Sri Lanka at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados in West Indies. Australia won the toss chose to bat first. Australian Opener Adam Gilchrist played a wonderful 149 runs on just 104 balls innings, this help to make the 281 runs in 38 over by Australia team.
One again rain interrupt the final match game and Sri Lanka team got revised the target of 269 in 36 overs. Sri Lankan batman failed to reach this target and team score the 215 runs in 36 overs. From the Sri Lankans side Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara are fitting for its team. Australia became the winner of 3rd consecutive World cup champions, and made the biggest hat-trick of cricket world. Man of the match is Adam Gilchrist. After this world cup many Australian team players are retired from cricket names Adam Gilchrist, Mathew Hayden, Andrew Symonds and Glen McGrath.
